Actor Richard Gere will appear chasing a genocidal villain, a character based on the Serbian war crime accused Radovan Kardzic, in the film The Hunting Party.
New York, Aug. 24 : Actor Richard Gere will appear chasing a genocidal villain, a character based on the Serbian war crime accused Radovan Kardzic, in the film 'The Hunting Party'.
The film features Gere, Terrence Howard, and Jesse Eisenberg as journalists who form a team to search the villain, the Fox.
Although the US and NATO have been "searching" for Karadzic for more than a decade, Gere insists that while shooting for the film in Bosnia, he realised that the fugitive was not very hard to find.
"I don't think anyone cares enough about him. If they really wanted to, they could have gotten him. I spoke to enough people who indicated that, if I wanted to meet him, I could," the New York Post quoted him as telling at Thursday's premiere of the corking comedy-thriller.
Despite being "on the run", Karadzic has managed to crank out a novel and two works of theatre.
"I actually put it out there that I was interested in doing a Serbian play," Gere chuckled.
Director Richard Shepard suggested that "Hunting Party" distributor Harvey Weinstein should "lure Karadzic out by optioning a play or novel."
"Karadzic's writing - especially his love poems - is really bad," said John Falk, one of the journalists whose real-life Bosnian goose chase inspired the movie.
"It's self-published. Even the Serbs don't want to read him," Falk added.
