Choosing good roles is a big challenge: Crowe

Actor Russell Crowe might have played a plethora of hit movie roles, but choosing a great role has always been a challenging task for him.

Melbourne, Aug. 24 : Actor Russell Crowe might have played a plethora of hit movie roles, but choosing a great role has always been a challenging task for him.

The Oscar winner star is well known for his screen portrayals as a reluctant gladiator and a brilliant mathematician, and now is playing an outlaw in Western film '''3:10 to Yuma'.

Crowe says that he has been offered many roles that come with a big pay cheque but do not interest him.

"It's always been that way, especially in my life in the movies. You get a lot of opportunities that come with a big pay cheque and all that sort of stuff but don't necessarily appeal to you," Moviehole quoted him as saying.

But when the actor feels that a role is appealing, a gaze through the script waters down his notions.

"There are also a lot of people who are absolutely dead set certain that this is something that you would love to do, then you start reading it and it's not something that turns you on, so I think you've got to stay true to yourself in that way. I read a script, and if I get goose bumps, if I kind of like what the potential of it is, then that's the thing that I do," he added.

Crowe had recently revealed that shooting for the Western film '3:10 To Yuma' was a pleasure for him, for it gave him a chance to ride horses.

The actor, who claims to be a horse riding expert, said that he wanted to remain seated in the saddle during the film's shooting.

"Probably since I was about nine or 10 years old, I've ridden horses quite regularly, and I have a cattle farm," Contactmusic quoted him, as saying.

"I have my own horses and stuff. So, for me, that was just a pleasure, being actually able to be on horseback for nine or 10 hours a day wasn't worrying me at all. You know, the more the better," he added.

Crowe stars alongside Christian Bale in the remake, which is slated for a release on September 7 in the US.
