Spice Girl Melanie Brown has broken her silence about her marriage to Stephen Belafonte, and insists that her new hubby is not the psychopath magazines are making him out to be.

London, Aug 21 : Spice Girl Melanie Brown has broken her silence about her marriage to Stephen Belafonte, and insists that her new hubby is not the 'psychopath' magazines are making him out to be.

Scary Spice, in an interview with Hello magazine says that was devastated when the Mirror ran a story about Belafonte battering ex-girlfriend Nicole Contreras.

However, Mel N insists that her hubby is not a wife-beater.

"Everything I stand for is about being a strong, independent woman, so for him to be seen as a wife beater is devastating for me because he's not - he never has been," the Mirror quoted her, as telling the mag.

The singer also admitted that she hates it her family and friends get the idea that her hubby is some kind of psychopath.

"They're trying to make him out to be this aggressive, violent, woman batterer and he's not. If you read those police reports, they never say he physically beat up a woman," she says.

"The only thing I don't like is that my friends and family read this and go into shock-horror mode, thinking, 'Oh, she's married a psychopath!'" she adds.

Mel B married Belafonte, 32, in a secret wedding ceremony in Las Vegas in June after a whirlwind romance.
