Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khans first Hollywood flick Marigold that revolves around the life of an American actress, who travels to India seeking fame and fortune, was released to a terrific response in theatres across the country on Friday.
New Delhi/Mumbai, Aug 17 : Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan's first Hollywood flick 'Marigold' that revolves around the life of an American actress, who travels to India seeking fame and fortune, was released to a terrific response in theatres across the country on Friday.
The musical comedy, which is a cross-cultural experiment and has been extensively shot in India, received a warm welcome by audiences.
"I liked the movie because it has Salman," said Priya, an ardent Salman Khan fan.
"Salman Khan was great and locations were very nice. It is a very nice movie," said Samita, another viewer.
The film that was launched in 2003, but was stalled in the absence of a financier, has an entire Indian crew with only two American actors despite being an outright Hollywood film.
The film trails the journey of Marigold Lexton, a non-descript Hollywood actress who comes to India to shoot for a film, which eventually gets shelved due to lack of funds. Stranded in a strange country, Marigold decides to star in a miniscule role in a Bollywood flick.
During the course of the film, she falls in love with the choreographer and what happens after that is an exciting journey that the director takes its audiences on.
Willard Carroll, a little known American director, who fell in love with Bollywood after watching a few movies, made this film as an attempt to take Bollywood and Indian culture to American viewers.
"The movie... is a sort of way-in for American audience who don't know Bollywood. To give them an introduction -- both to the world of films here andlso society and culture here," said Carroll.
Ali Larter known for her roles in films like 'A Lot Like Love' and 'Final Destination' stars along with Salman Khan, who has over 70 films to his credit.
Larter plays the role of Marigold while Khan serenades her as Prem, the Bollywood choreographer in the film.
Salman Khan, who makes Hollywood debut with 'Marigold', pointed out the noticeable differences between Bollywood and Hollywood movie making.
"Their (Hollywood) style of working is a lot more professional. Their scripting and everything is pretty much the same, but they are more efficient and they are more serious about the work," said Salman.
The film has some beautiful numbers by the super-hit musical trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, who have added another feather in their caps by scoring the songs for "Marigold'. The songs are a mix of English and Hindi.
Shot in Jodhpur in Rajasthan and Maharashtra, the film is seeing a simultaneous release in the UK, the US and Canada.
