Underworld director Len Wiseman has been signed on to helm the remake of the 1981 blockbuster starring Kurt Russell - Escape from New York.
Washington, Aug 15 : 'Underworld' director Len Wiseman has been signed on to helm the remake of the 1981 blockbuster starring Kurt Russell - 'Escape from New York'.
The remake will star Scottish actor and singer Gerard Butler.
Wiseman is in final negotiations with New Line, which won the bidding for the movie in March this year, reports Variety.
The movie will be produced by Neal Moritz, with Original's Ori Marmur; Ron Halpern and Frederic Sichler of Canal Plus, which held the remake rights; and John Carpenter, who directed the original 1981 pic, on as executive producers.
In the remake, Butler will be playing Snake Plissken, ex-soldier and legendary fugitive who is given 23 hours to find the President of the United States, who has been captured by inmates after Air Force One crashed on crime-ridden Manhattan Island in New York City.
The original starred Kurt Russell and was set in 1998.
