Singer Melanie Browns wedding to Stephen Belafonte has come as a shock to everyone, even her parents.

London, August 12 : Singer Melanie Brown's wedding to Stephen Belafonte has come as a shock to everyone, even her parents.

Andrea and Martin Brown have divulged that their daughter's marriage was a "shock" to them.

Andrea said she came to know of her daughter's marriage through newspaper reports.

"It's a shock. I don't really know him. And Martin hasn't even met him. She's 32, it's not like she's a teenager. I just want her to be with the right person after everything she's gone through," the Mirror quoted Andrea as saying.

"She hasn't said anything to anyone. It's just like Mel to do something so spontaneous. She'd hit rock bottom after her split with Eddie," she added.

Andrea said she and Martin are more worried about their daughter after learning that the singer's new husband is a convicted wife-beater.

"I've had her dad on the phone constantly, he's panicking. It's awful. I've been reading stuff about him (Belafonte) on a Hollywood gossip Internet site and it's frightening," she said.

"There were all these comments about his past from so-called friends which were shocking. I've tried to contact her but couldn't. She's been going through such a lot with Eddie, but this is really worrying," she further said.

The Spice Girl wed Belafonte in a secret ceremony in June at Las Vegas. The wedding was first disclosed by gossip site Perezhilton.com.
