New York, Aug 1 : Grammy winner Usher's life was surrounded by a medical drama this weekend amid reports that his pregnant girlfriend, Tameka Foster, was at an Atlanta hospital.
The couple had a last-minute cancellation of their nuptials on Saturday, followed by local radio stations' reports that Foster had checked into an unnamed hospital on Sunday.
Meanwhile, speculations started doing the rounds that Foster, who is due in December, was being treated for "pregnancy complications". Some sources even said that Usher had visited Foster.
"He's definitely checked up her. But prior to that he hadn't seen her since Saturday, when he called off the wedding. He hadn't even been taking her calls," the New York Daily News quoted a source as saying.
Sources have also revealed that the 28-year-old singer had flown back to Peachtown to make amends with his mother, Jonetta Patton, who had refused to attend the ceremony, which was to have taken place at the Hamptons estate of record mogul L.A. Reid.
They believe that Foster's reported health crisis might have been be a ploy to reorient the runaway groom.
"This could be a ploy to reel him back," said a source.
"She's playing the pregnancy card. It's so predictable. Usher is a really nice guy and a little naive. But he's learning fast," said another source.
The source also said that Foster, a divorced mother of three, "has been pushing him to release a statement saying that they postponed the wedding because of the pregnancy problem."
Usher's close friends believe that that his toes turned blue because his mother did not like his bride.
"He's gone out with plenty of girls, including (TLC star) Chilli and (model) Eishia Brightwell. Jonetta has never been one to say, 'This girl isn't good enough for my son.' But she's not going for this one," said a confidante.
Usher's spokeswoman, Patti Webster, was unavailable for comment.
