Wahl Campaigns Awarded for Excellence in Creative Marketing

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - June 11, 2014) - Wahl, a leading manufacturer of personal care and pet grooming products, recently brought home four awards at the Publicity Club of Chicago's 55th annual Golden Trumpet Awards. The area's premier awards competition for outstanding achievement in public relations and communications recognized Wahl's campaigns, which included everything from a study linking facial hair to superior athletic performance to dogs getting dirty to support a good cause. The winning campaigns were developed by HY Connect, a full-service advertising and communications firm with offices in Chicago and Milwaukee.

Bringing home the Gold was Wahl's All-Star Facial Hair campaign, which won top honors in the Consumer Marketing category. For this effort, Wahl teamed up with STATS LLC, the world's leading sports analytics company, to crunch 10 years of data to show that facial hair is a natural performance enhancer for professional baseball players. The light-hearted study, which launched in conjunction with the 2013 All-Star Game, generated national coverage in USA Today, The Associated Press, Sporting News, LA Times, Men's Fitness and more. Facial hair ambassadors Brandon Phillips, an All-Star second baseman, and professional pitchers Sam LeCure and John Axford, shared the study with their social media followers.

Three Wahl campaigns also won Silver Trumpets. The Mustaches at Work Tour, a tongue-and-cheek campaign in partnership with the American Mustache Institute, advocated for facial hair equality in the workplace and included a road trip through the "Mustache Belt of America". The Head-to-Head Challenge had Wahl teaming up with two professional football players from rival teams to raise money for St. Baldrick's Foundation and support their fight against childhood cancer. And Wahl's Dirty Dogs Contest, a finalist in the social media category, helped raise awareness for National Dog Adoption Month and clean out America's shelters.
