February 6, 2014 - Sacramento, CA

SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwired - February 06, 2014) - "Every Day in Cambodia," a CNN Freedom Project documentary will air on CNN this Sunday, February 9 at 7:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. PT. The CNN premiere of the documentary provides an overview of the sex trafficking problem in Cambodia, offers ways for the global community to raise awareness about the issue and be a part of the solution to end this worldwide tragedy.

The documentary touches on the efforts of Agape International Missions (AIM) and 3Strands, two organizations actively working to rescue and support victims and their communities. The documentary features Academy Award-winning actress Mira Sorvino, UNODC Goodwill Ambassador for Global Fight against Human Trafficking, who joined the fight against sex trafficking in 2004 when her eyes were opened to this unspeakable horror.

AIM co-founders, Don and Bridget Brewster, were profiled in the documentary. This powerful piece was produced by CNN's Lisa Cohen as part of The CNN Freedom Project, a multi-platform initiative that aims to expose the horrors of modern-day slavery and advocate for change. Cohen, a senior supervising producer at CNN International, helped launch and develop the editorial mandate and mission that has set the tone for this network-wide anti-slavery initiative.

"Sex trafficking is not OK," said Ken Petersen, 3Strands co-founder and CEO of Apricot Lane. "We believe everyone can make a difference, and this new level of attention is the start of our efforts to mobilize a global initiative. We know there is strength in numbers, and a cord of 3Strands is not easily broken. We are here to pull together our global community to build awareness and rebuild lives."

Petersen, along with his business partner Scott Jacobs, founded 3Strands in 2012 after becoming educated on the tragedies in Cambodia and the good works of AIM. The mission of 3Strands is to mobilize a worldwide community of individuals and organizations to positively change lives by investing in sustainable initiatives that fight sex trafficking. With built-in business acumen and grace, the partners created a sustainable employment opportunity to help rebuild the lives of the young victims in Cambodia.

The organization is supported through the sale of handmade bracelets created at the AIM employment center in Cambodia, member pledges, events and corporate sponsorships. Through the sale of every 3Strands bracelet created in Cambodia, funds are raised to help empower, teach and employ young women who have been rescued from sex trafficking. As a nonprofit and philanthropic effort rooted in Sacramento, California, 100% of the net proceeds from 3Strands helps support organizations such as Agape International Mission.

"Before this, I was blissfully unaware that slavery was alive and well -- it had just gone underground," wrote Sorvino in her journal while in Cambodia filming the CNN documentary. "Meeting survivors of human trafficking changed my life, and deepened my commitment to fighting this terrible scourge that affects most every country around the world."

AIM and 3Strands are focused on meeting with local leaders and supporters across the United States and abroad to raise awareness and funds to support their vision of a world free from sex trafficking.
