Dr. Perry Halkitis Speaks at World Aids Day in Washington, D.C.

November 24, 2014 - WASHINGTON, DC

Dr. Perry N. Halkitis, one of the nation's top experts, will be leading at the forefront of the December 3, 2014, World Aid's Day discussion. He will be addressing a wide spread audience as the proclaimed "aids Warrior" at the Capitol View Conference Center in Washington, D.C.

The American Psychological Association could not have selected a more worthy key note speaker. Terms like advocate and supporter, seem like an understatement when describing Dr. Perry Halkitis, considering the dedication he has displayed to the mission of educating the market on topics like substance use and HIV behavioral research. The author will be covering the subject of aging with HIV/aids at the event, which also be live streamed as a webinar, opening up this forum to the general public.

Based on the effort described in his award winning book "The AIDS Generation: Stories of Survival and Resilience," he will examine the medical, psychological and social challenges of older adults living with HIV. Halkitis has focused his research on the direct life experiences of aging HIV-positive gay men. Men who are not just long-term survivors, but those whose resilience provides a framework for a strength-based, holistic approach to providing optimal care. The style of this type of an approach recognizes the biopsychosocial aspects of aging with HIV, with attention to the multiple identities that individuals hold, as a response to improving, and enlightening the potential for future research opportunity.

This event not only signifies individuals forming a united front in the fight against HIV, but it signifies the ongoing support and struggle to provide more research opportunities and commemorate those who have lost their lives to the battle.

Dr. Perry Halkitis is raising awareness, offering his expertise, and inspiring others to join him in turning knowledge into actions on World aids Day 2014.
