Childhelp Launches New Website Highlighting National Epidemic of Child Abuse

November 20, 2014 - PHOENIX, AZ

Childhelp®, the nation's oldest and largest non-governmental nonprofit advocating for abused and neglected children, has launched a new website at www.childhelp.org that highlights and focuses on the Five Too Many™ campaign aimed at reducing the incidences of child abuse through prevention education.

Utilizing tools on the new site, individuals can learn how to define and recognize abuse, its prevalence within the United States and how to combat this ever-growing issue. Childhelp is working to generate awareness on this issue as well as to provide individuals with the knowledge and power to understand and stop abuse.

Visitors to the new website will also get a detailed look at the Childhelp approach and solution such as the programs and facilities in place to help with intervention, prevention and treatment of abuse. These programs and services help children from any situation and let them experience the life they deserve: one free of abuse. The principal theme across all of Childhelp's programs is to provide the children it serves with an environment of compassion and kindness.

In our nation, five children die every day from child abuse or neglect, a report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds and nearly 3.3 million reports of child abuse are made annually. However, through prevention education programs like Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe, the number of children affected by child abuse can be greatly reduced.

Sara O'Meara and Yvonne Fedderson started Childhelp in 1959 and have helped over nine million children since its inception. Website visitors can scroll through the "Decades of Caring" timeline to read their story and find milestones like Sara and Yvonne meeting with five standing presidents to pass child abuse legislation; launching the National Child Abuse hotline, 1-800-4-A-CHILD; Sara and Yvonne's nine Nobel Peace Prize nominations and more.

Other key features of the new website include several easy ways for child abuse victims to get help or for advocates to get in touch with Childhelp, including sharing their stories, attending an event or volunteering. The site's content also includes simple steps to take to stem the tide of this epidemic such as emailing Congress or donating to the cause.

Childhelp has 19 chapters across the country and offers programs and services such as advocacy centers, residential treatment centers, foster and adoption care as well as the Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe and the hotline 1-800-4-A-CHILD.
