Wesley Palms Opens Summer House Memory Care Support Neighborhood

May 14, 2013 - SAN DIEGO, CA

Wesley Palms, a full-service Front Porch retirement community located in Pacific Beach overlooking San Diego's Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean, announces the opening of its state-of-the-art Summer House memory care support neighborhood. The new Summer House at Wesley Palms offers personalized care for older adults with memory loss and dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, in a unique neighborhood atmosphere, utilizing the latest technology to ensure residents feel secure and at home.

Summer House at Wesley Palms features 22 technology-enhanced cottages, each with its own front porch encircling a protected courtyard within a secured perimeter of tranquil pathways on Wesley Palms' 35 acres of parkland. Summer House at Wesley Palms is the third and most unique Summer House memory care community within Front Porch -- one of the largest not-for-profit providers of retirement living communities in Southern California.

Summer House at Wesley Palms offers a unique approach to memory care support including highly individualized care and a family atmosphere where dining and activities are shared in a central clubhouse building. The protected courtyard offers tree-lined paths and shaded spots for picnics with friends and family. In addition, each Summer House resident is assigned a primary caregiver to ensure personal attention in a relaxed community atmosphere where residents interact and create comfortable routines.

"Summer House is uniquely designed to be as warm and comfortable as a cherished summer home," said Ben Geske, Wesley Palms' executive director. "Within the Summer House, we focus on getting to know and value each resident as a unique individual. We use the latest supportive technologies as well as our training and intuition to create an engaging environment for each resident."

Summer House at Wesley Palms uses advanced technologies such as the Dakim Brain Fitness software to help residents improve memory, focus, and concentration. Each Summer House cottage features Intel-GE Care Innovations™ QuietCare®, an advanced motion sensor technology that learns the daily activity patterns of residents and sends alerts to help caregivers respond to potentially urgent situations, allowing staff to be more proactive in caring for residents in a way that respects their privacy and dignity.

"Through the use of Care Innovations™ QuietCare®, our responsiveness increases, which in turn improves care overall," Geske said. "Families of our residents can truly rest assured that their loved ones are receiving the best possible attention and support."

Front Porch communities specialize in catering to the holistic needs of older adults in an engaging community atmosphere that promotes wellbeing. Summer House at Wesley Palms is a unique solution to provide specialized, individual care for residents with dementia or dementia related disorders in a place that is uniquely designed to create connection and take advantage of the healing power of the beautiful outdoor setting.
