Wall Street Mile Runners Race Against Clock and Pediatric Cancer

July 2, 2013 - NEW YORK, NY

Event organizers for the inaugural Wall Street Mile at Columbia University's Wien Stadium have relaxed registration requirements after the CHASE Corporate Challenge was canceled on June 13th due to inclement weather.

"Tens of thousands of people didn't get a chance to run, including many working outside the financial services industry, so rather than let their race preparation go to waste, we chose to open our doors," remarked event organizer, Marc Hodulich. "Given the circumstances, our title sponsor, RBC Capital Markets, and beneficiary, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, recognized the prudence in welcoming runners who would have otherwise been denied the opportunity to participate in this incredible event."

Wall Street Mile participation is now open to women and men employed in all professional services including; accounting, consulting, legal, healthcare, real estate, technology, and advertising. The registration fee has been reduced to $25/runner through July 19th. Runners who register and raise $250 are automatically entered into a raffle to win dozens of Spira running sneakers. "It's a testament to the inspired leadership behind the Decathlon that the Wall Street Mile Race should welcome runners unable to participate in the CHASE Corporate Challenge after it was cancelled due to weather conditions," said Richard Naum, Vice President for Development at MSKCC. "To redirect that flood of humanitarian energy into a race in which everyone wins -- the runners themselves and the children who will benefit from the funds provided for cancer research -- is to give the Memorial Sloan-Kettering community yet another reason to extend its profound and heartfelt gratitude to the Decathlon."

The Wall Street Mile is produced in conjunction with The RBC Decathlon, an annual athletic contest where the winner is crowned "Wall Street's Best Athlete" and participants -- exclusively women and men in financial services -- raise money supporting pediatric cancer research and treatment at MSKCC. The event raised $1.3MM in 2012.
