Koninklijke Ten Cate NV: Royal Ten Cate puts first digital inkjet machine into operation

On Monday 1 July textile technologycompany Royal Ten Cate introduced the firstproduction machine for digital finishing on the basis of inkjet technology.TheoRietkerk, member of the Provincial Executive of Overijssel for Economy,Energyand Innovation, activated the machine at the company site of TenCateProtective& Outdoor Fabrics in Nijverdal, the Netherlands. Operation of this newmachinemarks the official transition from analogue to digital finishing oftechnicaltextiles.

With digital finishing of textile surfaces other or new characteristics canbeintroduced in existing products, leading to product modifications that meettheincreasing dynamics of wishes of customers. Digital inkjet technology givesTenCate the ability to offer on-demand delivery and mass customization onthebasis of a flexible, sustainable and cost-efficient production process.Industrial application of inkjet technology within the technical textileindustry means considerable savings in water, energy and chemicals, such asdyesand pigments.

The research and development of the digitalinkjetmachine and the related research over the past years were facilitated bythesupport of the European Union, the European Technology Platform for theFutureof Textiles and Clothing, the province of Overijssel, the University ofTwenteand the region of Twente.
