sellbackyourBook.com Founder Glen Nothnagel Recognized in a White House Ceremony Honoring Young Entrepreneurs

October 1, 2012 - Montgomery, IL

sellbackyourBook.com, an online re-commerce company that gives consumers a place to sell their used books and old edition college textbooks, today announced that its Founder and CEO, Glen Nothnagel, has been named an honoree in the 2012 Empact100, an awards program sponsored by Empact, an organization that focuses on making entrepreneurship a viable career option for everyone around the world.

Now in its second year, Empact100 recognized Nothnagel's company as one of the United States' "Top 100 Companies Started by Young Entrepreneurs" during a ceremony held on Friday, September 28 at the White House in Washington, D.C.

"sellbackyourBook.com is honored to be recognized as part of this year's Empact100," says Nothnagel. "Small business and entrepreneurship are a very important part of getting the U.S. economy back on track, and I am grateful to Empact for shining a light on successful young entrepreneurs, like myself, and providing us with the educational programs, tools and inspiration that we need to continue to succeed as small business owners."

Nothnagel, a young entrepreneur from the southwest suburbs of Chicago who was honored in 2011 as one of the "Top 25 entrepreneurs under the age of 25" by Bloomberg BusinessWeek, started sellbackyourBook.com in 2008, at the age of 20 during his sophomore year in college. He came up with the idea after realizing that few textbooks were being bought back by his college bookstore at the end of each semester. "The system was broken and I knew that there was a better way for students to get back some of the money they had spent on expensive textbooks," says Nothnagel. "Putting college on hold, I started working on a business model. Over the past four years, we have purchased more than one million items, everything from old edition textbooks to the latest in fiction, and paid out over $8 million to more than 200,000 customers for their titles."

In 2009, sellbackyourBook.com expanded, launching a Website for consumers to get cash for unwanted CDs, DVDs, and video games. sellDVDSonline.com has purchased more than 350,000 items from individuals. Later this year, sellbackyourBook.com plans to start buying cell phones and other consumer electronics. The company currently has 17 employees and is located in Montgomery, Ill.

Empact100 honorees include the top 100 companies in the Empact Showcase, a compilation of the United States' leading entrepreneurs who are age 30 and under, and whose annual revenues or operating budgets (for non-profits) are more than $100,000. In 2012, the companies comprising the Empact Showcase contributed more than 8,000 jobs to the economy, and controlled $1 billion in revenue.

"The annual Empact100 and Empact Showcase are both a testament to the impact that entrepreneurs are making on our economy, and an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs," said Sarah Green, Co-Founder, Empact100. "We are proud of all of the 2012 Empact100 honorees and pleased to support them by celebrating the spirit, dedication and hard work that has made them successful entrepreneurs."
