Wickaninnish Inn Rated Top Resort in Canada Travel + Leisure Poll

July 9, 2012 - Tofino, British Columbia

As announced Friday morning on NBC's the Today Show, readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine have rated the Wickaninnish Inn the Top Resort in Canada.

The prestigious travel magazine polls readers for their World's Best Awards each year. For the first time, the Travel and Leisure has devoted a category exclusively to Canadian properties. In the past the Wickaninnish Inn has ranked favourably in the US/Canada division for many years, most recently having been selected the #1 property in Canada in 2011 and twenty fourth overall in this combined category last year.

"The fact this ranking comes to us from the knowledgeable readers of Travel + Leisure and our past guests makes this recognition very meaningful to our entire team," says Charles McDiarmid, Managing Director of the Wickaninnish Inn.

In an effort to continually improve the guest experience, the Inn recently completed a thorough renovation of all 45 of the original Wickaninnish-at-the-Pointe Building guestrooms. The public areas of the Inn also received a detailed revitalization. One intriguing new element is the refurbishment of the steam room in the Ancient Cedars Spa which has become a magical 'sea cave' fashioned with beach glass and a true cave-like atmosphere.

The Inn is honoured to receive this latest award from Travel + Leisure magazine, as well as other reader's choice awards from Conde Nast Traveler Magazine (June 2012, #1 Spa in Canada), Conde Nast Johansen's (2012 Award of Excellence), Wine Spectator Magazine (2011 Award of Excellence), Andrew Harper's Reader Survey (#7 International Hideaway out of 1,000 Inns in 2011), Vancouver Magazine (2012 Gold, Best Resort Dining in BC) and many more.

About Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards

A questionnaire developed by the editors of Travel + Leisure, in association with ROI Research Inc., was made available to Travel + Leisure readers. Readers were invited to participate through Travel + Leisure magazine and online at TravelandLeisure.com. To protect the integrity of the data, after March 31, 2011, respondents were screened by Travel + Leisure and responses from any identified travel-industry professionals who completed the survey were eliminated from the final tally. Respondents were asked to rate hotels, islands, destination spas, golf resorts, and rental-car agencies on five characteristics: rooms/facilities, location, service, restaurants/food and value. A minimum number of responses are necessary for a candidate to be eligible for inclusion in the World's Best Awards listings. http://www.travelandleisure.com/worldsbest
