Transferable Functions Improve Career Mobility - Robert Walters

March 7, 2012 - Tokyo

According to Robert Walters' recently released 2012 Salary Survey, financial services firms offered the highest salaries for accounting, audit and human resources professionals. The transferability of these functions also meant that professionals found more mobility to transition between financial firms, and commercial and industrial companies compared to many other specialised positions.

Key findings for Japan:

Higher salaries in financial firms, but limited recruitment activity

- 20-30% higher salaries were generally offered within financial services firms over commerce and industry companies

- Despite low hiring activity, banking and securities firms struggled to find qualified accountants, auditors and product controllers, and were generally flexible with salary packages to secure talented applicants

- Global economic uncertainty limited recruitment activity within financial firms resulting in offshoring to Singapore and Hong Kong for a number of senior human resources positions

More career opportunities in commerce and industry companies

- M&A activity drove commerce and industry recruitment for compensation and benefits specialists and senior human resources professionals to help reorganise business and payroll structures

- Commercial sector small to medium-size enterprises (SME) and start-up firms created strong recruitment demand for administrative and support contract professionals to support growing sales forces

- Salary rises of less than 10% were generally offered by commerce and industry companies for job-seekers experienced in accounting, finance and audit
