Tier One US Carrier Selects Openet for Signaling Management

Openet, a global leader of high performance transaction management software for network operators, today announced a tier one U.S. mobile operator has selected Openet Interaction Gateway for signaling optimization, resulting in projected savings of more than $45 million over three years.

Network signaling has become a problem for operators because many popular smartphone apps are "chatty," and require constant queries of the network for updates. Uncontrolled, "chatty" app signaling can reduce network availability, exhaust the DHCP IP address pool, reduce AAA capacity and impact device battery life.

Optimizing signaling enables operators to control infrastructure costs associated with serving "chatty" apps. Subscribers benefit as well, with no noticeable change to the app's functionality, improved network performance and up to 50 percent increase of mobile device battery life.

The signaling control solution works by using Openet Interaction Gateway to coordinate communication between the operator's Policy and Charging Control (PCC) systems and a specialized Interaction Agent that provides on-device signaling management.

Interaction Gateway is also the platform for Openet's Subscriber Engagement solution, which provides a channel for rich interaction between operators and subscribers. Within this solution, Interaction Gateway coordinates communication between PCC infrastructure and a subscriber-facing App for real-time access to customer account data (usage, spend and remaining balances), as well as to information regarding available services.
