Software Secure and International Center for Academic Integrity to Launch Trusted Seal Program to Promote Integrity Standards in Online Education
December 7, 2012 - Newton, MA
Software Secure, the recognized leader and pioneer in secure, computer-based testing solutions and the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI) today announced that they would be partnering to develop The Trusted Seal -- a set of standardized criteria with which the integrity practices of online courses can be evaluated. The Trusted Seal will be awarded to online courses that meet a set of core criteria to educate, promote and protect academic integrity in the online learning environment.
"Up until now, there has been no standardized approach to evaluating the integrity of online education, so we're very excited to partner with Software Secure," said Dr. Teresa Fishman, Director of the International Center for Academic Integrity. "Together, with our experience with academic integrity issues and Software Secure's experience in secure online exam technology, we believe we can help instructors evaluate their courses and improve them in terms of security and integrity," remarked Dr. Fishman.
The Trusted Seal is a program that evaluates, with a peer-reviewed rubric, hybrid and online courses for best practices in academic integrity. Online or hybrid courses, programs, or institutions that pass three rounds of peer review by academic integrity subject matter experts will be vested with the Trusted Seal of Integrity, a symbol of excellence in those practices that safeguard academic integrity in the online environment. The ultimate goal is to provide a tool to the greater community by which online course integrity, a proxy for online course quality, can be standardized across institutions.
"We're excited to partner with the International Center for Academic Integrity -- they share our vision and have a talented and forward-thinking team," said Software Secure CEO and Founder Douglas M. Winneg. "Their capabilities combined with our technology expertise will help educational institutions be successful implementing an ICAI-vetted rubric and peer review program to certify online and hybrid courses that employ best practices to protect academic integrity," Winneg explained.
Software Secure and ICAI will be releasing more information about the Trusted Seal Program as it gets closer to the expected launch date, March 1, 2013. Interested institutions and individuals can visit http://www.softwaresecure.com/seal-program/index.html for additional details.
