New Solution From FoxT Enables Organizations to Take Control of Local Accounts on Windows Desktops

September 14, 2012 - Mountain View, CA

Fox Technologies, Incorporated, (FoxT), a leading provider of Enterprise Access Management solutions, today announced the general availability of FoxT DesktopControl, a new offering within the FoxT suite of access management and privileged account control solutions. FoxT DesktopControl gives organizations the ability to centrally control access to local administrative accounts on Windows Desktop systems.

Many software installations for desktops require a local account on that system to be functional. The issue is that local accounts on Windows desktops fall outside the control of Active Directory (AD), making it difficult for organizations to centrally control and audit these accounts. Because local accounts are typically administrative accounts, they have full administrative privileges on the system, and can be very damaging in the wrong hands.

"Most organizations have thousands of local accounts across various desktop systems with no way of managing and keeping them under control. End users can easily exploit these powerful local administrative accounts, creating a significant security risk," stated Lynne Courts, Chief Marketing Officer at FoxT. "We developed FoxT DesktopControl to close this security gap by giving organizations the ability to centrally control, enforce and audit access to local accounts on Windows desktops."

FoxT DesktopControl specifically gives organizations the ability to implement proactive enforcement of granular authorization policies for local account access permissions and methods. The new FoxT solution also enables organizations to automatically provision and de-provision user accounts based on status changes in corporate directories and IDM solutions. Proactive enforcement combination with centralized logging of user activities will reduce the risk of a security breach and solve key audit issues related to administrative accounts.

"Giving organizations the ability to control local accounts on Windows desktops is a natural extension of our enterprise access management solution suite and another step forward in our goal of providing highly scalable, proven access management solutions to the marketplace," stated Subhash Tantry, CEO at FoxT. "Since all of our access management solutions are built from the ground up on the same core architecture, organizations can easily expand their access control footprint across diverse servers, applications, databases, and now desktops, giving them the best return on investment and lowest total cost of ownership."
