Methodist Willowbrook Hospital Receives Echocardiography Accreditation

March 16, 2012 - HOUSTON, TX

Rapidly expanding Methodist Willowbrook Hospital in northwest Houston and its leading cardiovascular program is granted a three-year term of accreditation in Echocardiography, in the areas of Adult Transthoracic, by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).

As cardiovascular disease continues to be the number one cause of death in the United States, claiming the life of one American every 39 seconds, the cardiovascular program at Methodist Willowbrook works to provide the latest in preventive, diagnostic and treatment to patients. This recent accreditation underscores the program's commitment to providing the highest quality of cardiovascular care.

"Accreditation by the IAC means that Methodist Willowbrook Hospital has undergone a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts," said Lyle Muhammad, director of cardiology services at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.

"The IAC grants accreditation only to those facilities determined to provide quality patient care, in compliance with national standards and assessed through a comprehensive application process including detailed case study review," Muhammad added.

Echocardiography procedures performed within hospitals, outpatient centers and physicians' offices are often used in the early detection of life threatening heart disorders and other diseases. Though, there are many facets that contribute to an accurate diagnosis based on Echocardiography testing -- including the skill of the Echocardiography sonographer performing the examination, the type of equipment used, the background and knowledge of the interpreting physician and quality assurance measures applied.

The IAC accreditation in Echocardiography ensures that the highest level of expertise and equipment is used in patient testing.

According to Beryl Ramsey, CEO of Methodist Willowbrook and senior vice president of The Methodist Hospital System, IAC accreditation is a "seal of approval," which ensures patients that the facility is carefully critiqued on all aspects of its operations considered relevant by medical experts in the field of Echocardiography -- something about which patients are encouraged to inquire prior to scheduling an Echocardiography procedure at any medical facility.

A not-for-profit hospital, Methodist Willowbrook is part of The Methodist Hospital System. It has expanded its campus in Northwest Houston to serve the area in a more comprehensive way.

Methodist Willowbrook Hospital has received its chest pain and stroke accreditations, performs complex surgeries such as neurosurgery and open heart, and focuses on women and children in its new Women's & Children's Pavilion.
