RK Motors Charlotte's Rob Kauffman to Compete in Legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans

June 9, 2011 - CHARLOTTE, NC

Competing in one of the oldest, most celebrated automotive race circuits in the world, Rob Kauffman, owner of RK Motors Charlotte, the premier restorers, re-sellers and builders of classic, muscle and high-performance cars, will take the driver's seat of a Ferrari F458 during the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, June 11-12. Along with teammates Michael Waltrip and Rui Aguas, Rob Kauffman will race on behalf of the notable Italian auto racing team, AF Corse. Sharing the same passion for performance, the team's Ferrari will proudly wear the RK Motors Charlotte logo.

"We're competing in one of the world's most famous races," said Kauffman. "The support we've received has been tremendous. Both the RK Motors Charlotte and Michael Waltrip Racing teams truly understand the passion that drives our industry and share an enthusiasm for racing. We're glad both organizations will partner with AF Corse this season to race together in Europe."

The RK Motors Charlotte logo will be located on the hood and side panel of the Ferrari. Competing at the event for the first time, Rob Kauffman and Michael Waltrip will be sharing driving duties with Rui Aguas during the 24 hour race.

"To have the opportunity to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race is truly special," added Joseph Carroll, RK Motors Charlotte president and CEO. "We're able to connect with a wider demographic of racing enthusiasts from NASCAR fans to now exotic automotive aficionados. As avid car fans, we recognize what owners look for in a collectible and often times it's tied to the high horsepower and competition of legendary races such as Le Mans."

RK Motors Charlotte is no stranger to the Ferrari brand. AF Corse has worn the RK Motors Charlotte logo before, when the team drove a Ferrari F430 during the 12 Hours of Sebring, as well as Monza, Spa and other famous European circuits.

Held annually since 1923, the Le Mans event is the world's oldest sports car race that is based on endurance of both the vehicle and the driver. Drivers travel on public roads that weave through the French countryside and on a specially-built racing circuit that tests the driver's ability to react quickly to fast curves and narrow straight-aways.

RK Motors Charlotte and Michael Waltrip Racing have teamed up in the past to design and build the NASCAR edition Toyota Camry, which debuted at the 2010 SEMA show in Las Vegas. Both the #00 and #56 Sprint Cup cars of Michael Waltrip Racing also proudly wear the RK Motors Charlotte logo on the c-post during most NASCAR Sprint Cup races.
