Disney/ABC Television Group's Vince Roberts Appointed Chairman of the Board of ETC@USC


March 29, 2011 - LOS ANGELES, CA

The Entertainment Technology Center at University of Southern California (ETC@USC) today announced its appointment of respected industry executive Vince Roberts as ETC@USC board chairman. The Entertainment Technology Center @ USC is a multi-industry consortium pioneering initiatives to ensure consumers have the best possible digital entertainment user experience. In addition to his active involvement with ETC@USC's executive board, Roberts serves as the executive vice president, global operations and chief technology officer of the Disney/ABC Television Group.

Roberts is a founding employee of the Disney Channel, where he joined the network in 1983 as a staff engineer. He was later appointed to director of operations and engineering, and led the team that developed one of the country's first video server-based broadcast operations. Additionally, he helped establish Disney's first international broadcast operation, Walt Disney Television Singapore. In his current role at Disney/ABC Television Group (DATG), Roberts develops and implements operational and technological strategies and solutions across the Group. He has oversight of broadcast operating and technical functions of the ABC Television Network, Disney Channel Worldwide, Disney XD, Playhouse Disney, SOAPnet and ABC Family; and Disney ABC International Television, including Disney-branded networks in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, Japan and Canada. Additionally, he works in close collaboration with the teams from ABC's Owned TV Stations in regards to their operational and technological systems.

Roberts is a member of The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Society of Cable Television Engineers (SCTE) and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
