Death Cab for Cutie's "CODES AND KEYS" Arrives at #3 on Billboard 200, While Also Topping Alternative and Digital Charts; Sold Out Tour of Intimate Venues Wraps Tomorrow, With Major Headline Itinerary Set to Kick Off on July 27th in Columbus, Ohio

June 8, 2011 - NEW YORK, NY

"CODES AND KEYS," the critically acclaimed new album from Atlantic recording group Death Cab for Cutie, has entered the Billboard 200 at #3, marking the week's top chart debut. With total sales in excess of 102,000, the album is also #1 on both the "Top Alternative Albums" and "Top Digital Albums" charts (with downloads comprising 57% of the first-week sales).

DCFC has spent much of the past month on a sold-out tour of intimate venues, a trek that concludes tomorrow night at The Fillmore in San Francisco. The show will be taped for broadcast on both MTV.com and VH1.com, with an airdate currently slated for next week.

Next up, Death Cab for Cutie will head to Europe for a series of headline dates and festival appearances. Upon their return, the band will embark on a much-anticipated summer headline tour, set to begin July 27th at Columbus, Ohio's LC Outdoor Amphitheater (see itinerary below) and then continuing through late August. All dates will see DCFC joined by very special guests Frightened Rabbit as support.

Furthermore, Death Cab for Cutie will also be among the top acts appearing at a number of upcoming festivals, including Ottawa's Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest on July 17th, Montreal's Osheaga Festival on July 31st, and Sunrise, Florida's Langerado Music Festival on the weekend of October 8th and 9th. And as if that weren't enough, the band is also set for a major hometown headline show at Seattle's Key Arena at Seattle Center on October 22nd. Presale tickets for the Key Arena show are available now to members of the band's official fan club, DCFC Union Local #1138, with all remaining tickets set to go on sale to the general public on June 11th. Death Cab for Cutie will celebrate the success of "CODES AND KEYS" with a live performance on tonight's installment of TBS' Conan. The appearance follows the band's recent visit to NBC's Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, as well as last month's debut airing of their own exceptional episode of VH1 Storytellers.

"You Are A Tourist" -- the first single from "CODES AND KEYS" -- is quickly proving a favorite at multi-format radio outlets nationwide. The track is currently #1 at Triple A for the sixth straight week, as well as #3 on the Modern Rock airplay chart which marks the band's highest ever position on this chart. In addition, the historic "You Are A Tourist" companion video has just been added at MTV, having already scored significant rotation at VH1, MTV2, and Fuse. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Tim Nackashi (TV On The Radio, OK Go, Elvis Costello, Radiohead), and conceptualized by frequent collaborator Aaron Stewart-Ahn, "You Are A Tourist" is the first-ever live, scripted, single-take music video to be broadcast as it is filmed. The clip can be viewed now at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkk5wViJo-I, where it has already logged over 1 million views.

In addition to its popular success, "CODES AND KEYS" has also received critical praise from an wide array of national publications, including Spin, Rolling Stone, Blackbook, Time Out New York, Interview, Filter, The New York Times, and Entertainment Weekly, which declared the album to be "a reminder to the rest of the pretty-rock community that loveliness is worthless if there's no heart behind it, and Death Cab's beats stronger than most."

Death Cab for Cutie is: Ben Gibbard: guitars, keyboards, vocals * Chris Walla: guitars, keyboards * Nick Harmer: bass * Jason McGerr: drums.
