Back With Vengeance: Hockey Teams From All Over the World Storm Minneapolis in Hopes of Winning Red Bull Open Ice 2011

February 8, 2011 - MINNEAPOLIS, MN

Teams from all over the world are competing in qualifying competitions around the globe in hopes of participating in the world phenomenon known as Red Bull Open Ice. This year, teams from both Slovenia and Finland, who lost in 2010 are back and determined to win this year. It won't be easy; Red Bull Open Ice has earned its reputation for being one of the toughest competitions forcing all who participate to prove their stamina and skills. Each qualifier will have one winning team who will arrive in Minneapolis on February 26th, 2011 ready to hit the open ice.

Red Bull Open Ice is about love of the game -- bringing the spirit and tradition of hockey back to its origins on frozen lakes and ponds. The only requirements are passion, a little talent and, of course, a helmet and skates. No frills or cushy arenas. Skating in freezing temperatures, the players are there for one reason only, to play the sport as it was meant to be played -- raw where pure skill takes center stage.

"We've played in a number of pond hockey tournaments, but the experience playing in a global tournament is something we only get at Red Bull Open Ice," stated Jeff Soren, team member, 2010 Red Bull Open Ice Champions, Wright Holmes. "We're looking forward to defending our title against the best in the world. Bring them on!"

Red Bull is taking over ponds and lakes throughout the United States, Finland, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Canada creating open invitation, all-day matches for everyone and anyone to compete. Keep your eyes peeled for some professional hockey players to hit the ice including one ex-Red Bull Salzburg player.
