As National Heart Month Wraps Up, GlobalFit Encourages Daily Exercise to Improve Heart Health

February 22, 2011 - Philadelphia, PA

While the statistics related to heart disease remain startling, it is the high projections of those at risk for developing cardiovascular disease that should be of greatest concern. Obese men face a drastically higher risk of dying from a Heart attack then those maintaining a healthy weight, reports the British Heart Foundation's Cardiovascular Research Centre. More, the American Heart Association reports that 70 percent of the U.S. population has some level of heart disease, with more than 2,500 Americans dying each day from this disease.

The prevalence of heart disease may be rooted in the alarmingly high number of Americans leading a sedentary lifestyle. According to a February 2011 study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in four Americans are entirely inactive, which can lead to an array of serious heart-related issues.

"Physical activity is crucial to maintaining overall wellness and avoiding serious health complications," says Molly Napolitano, Senior Health and Fitness Expert at GlobalFit. "The reports from the American Heart Association and CDC should compel us to strive for a healthier lifestyle. We have every opportunity to fight heart disease through daily exercise, even if just adding steps to our daily routines."

Like all muscles, the heart is strengthened through regular activity, which allows it to pump more blood through the body with less strain. A moderately intense workout, such as walking, for 30 minutes each day can spur significant health improvements.
