PIMCO, a leading global investment management firm, announced today that it has hired Maria (Masha) Gordon as an Executive Vice President and Emerging Market Equity Portfolio Manager


NEWPORT BEACH, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/22/10 -- PIMCO, a leading global investment management firm, announced today that it has hired Maria (Masha) Gordon as an Executive Vice President and Emerging Market Equity Portfolio Manager. She begins with the firm in October in the London office and will lead its emerging markets equity team. PIMCO also announced that it has hired recently five other senior equity investment professionals as part of the ongoing build-out of its active equity platform.

"Masha Gordon is an outstanding Portfolio Manager and we are delighted to have her lead our EM equity team. PIMCO plans to launch several active equity strategies in the next couple of years. Following the successful launch of PIMCO Pathfinder -- a deep value strategy -- emerging markets will be our next active equity strategy," said Neel Kashkari, Managing Director and Head of New Investment Initiatives.

In addition to Mrs. Gordon, PIMCO has made the following other senior hires in its equity group in recent months (in alphabetical order):

Rebecca B. Babin, a senior vice president and equity trader in the New York office.

Mark A. Cooper, a senior vice president and equity analyst in the New York office, and a member of the PIMCO Pathfinder™ team.

Steven Craige, a senior vice president and PIMCO Pathfinder equity product manager in the New York office.

Patrick Lawler, a senior vice president and equity analyst in the New York office, and a member of the PIMCO Pathfinder team.

Melissa Tuttle, a senior vice president and equity trader in the London office.

Professional biographies:

Maria Gordon, CFA

Masha will join PIMCO in October as an Executive Vice President and an Equity Portfolio Manager in the London office. Prior to joining PIMCO, Masha was a Managing Director, Portfolio Manager and Head of Global Emerging Markets Equity Strategy at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, where she served as a lead Portfolio manager for the Goldman Sachs Emerging Markets Equity Fund from 2003-2010 and a co-lead Portfolio Manager for the Goldman Sachs BRIC fund from 2006-2010. In the period from 2004 through 2008, she was also responsible for the emerging markets stock selection for the Goldman Sachs Strategic International Equity portfolio. In total, Masha helped oversee more than $8 billion in investment assets. Earlier in her career, she was a research analyst covering telecom, consumer and resource stocks in EMEA and LATAM regions for the Goldman Sachs Emerging Markets Equity strategy. Masha was named Investment Week's Emerging Markets Fund Manager of the Year in 2006. Masha has over 12 years of investment management experience. Prior to joining the industry, Mrs. Gordon worked as a reporter for the Moscow Bureau of "The Washington Post." She holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin and an MALD from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Rebecca B. Babin

Ms. Babin is a senior vice president and equity trader in the New York office. Prior to joining PIMCO in 2010, she was a trader focusing on equities, options, convertibles and macro hedging products for a high yield and capital structure arbitrage hedge fund at Brigade Capital Management. Ms. Babin was previously a relative value equity trader at Goldman Sachs. She has 10 years of investment experience and holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Boston College.

Mark A. Cooper, CFA

Mr. Cooper is a senior vice president and equity analyst in the New York office. Prior to joining PIMCO in 2010, he was partner, portfolio manager and equity analyst at Omega Advisors, a New York City hedge fund, focusing on global industrials, capital goods and commodities. He previously worked as a global industrials analyst at Pequot Capital Management and as a foreign exchange and precious metals portfolio manager at J.P. Morgan. Mr. Cooper is also Adjunct Professor in Finance and Economics at Columbia Business School where he teaches a course on applied value investing. He has 18 years of investment experience and holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a bachelor's degree in management science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Steven Craige, CFA

Mr. Craige is a senior vice president and equity product manager in the New York office. Prior to joining PIMCO in 2010, he was an institutional portfolio manager on the Mutual Series investment team at Franklin Templeton and responsible for communicating the team's investment philosophy, process and strategy to clients. His prior experience includes managing mutual fund, institutional and high net worth client accounts at US Trust Company and Citigroup Asset Management. He has 25 years of investment experience and holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Vermont

Patrick M. Lawler

Mr. Lawler is a senior vice president and equity analyst in the New York office. Prior to joining PIMCO in 2010, he was an analyst at Morgan Stanley focusing on merger arbitrage and other event-driven trading opportunities. Mr. Lawler previously worked as an event-driven analyst at both Pequot Capital Management and Goldman Sachs. Early in his career, he was an investment banking associate at Goldman Sachs, helping advise financial institutions on financings and mergers and acquisitions. He has 14 years of investment and financial services experience and holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a bachelor's degree in economics from Boston College.

Melissa Tuttle

Melissa Tuttle will join PIMCO in August as a senior vice president and equity trader in the London office. Prior to this, she was an executive director for active equity trading at Goldman Sachs Asset Management International, where she was responsible for developed market and emerging market equity, future, swap and ETF execution. Ms. Tuttle previously worked as a vice president in equity trading for Prudential Investments. Early in her career she was a trader for emerging market equities at HSBC Asset Management and a junior trader for the Latin American equities team at Baring America Asset Management. She has 17 years of trading and financial services experience and holds a BS in Biology/Pre-Medical from Emmanuel College.
