Sensex plunges by over 900 points

The 30-share sensitive index (sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Monday opened with a negative gap of 351 points at 17,228 and shed over 900 points before closing at 16,677 points.

Mumbai, Mar 3 : The 30-share sensitive index (sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Monday opened with a negative gap of 351 points at 17,228 and shed over 900 points before closing at 16,677 points.

The MIDCAP also registered negative trend as it lost 315 points and SMALLCAP too went southward with plummeting by 389 points.

Out of 2,766 stocks traded at the BSE, 2,333 declined, 393 advanced and 40 remained unchanged.

SBI plunged by nearly 9 per cent, while DLF and HDFC dropped around 8.5 per cent each.

BHEL jumped down by 8 per cent, and Hindalco and NTPC declined by 6.5 per cent each.

Reliance, ICICI Bank and Reliance Communications dropped around 6 per cent each.

Reliance Energy, Satyam and Larsen and Toubro shed over 5 per cent each.

Infosys went down by nearly 5 per cent, while ITC, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel shed around 4.5 per cent.

Stocks that registered positive trends were Cipla and Hindustan Unilever that gained 2 per cent and Ranbaxy that gained 1 per cent.
