Sensex plunges over 520 points

The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange today opened with negative gap of 416 points and plunged by 524 points before closing at 18, 139.

Mumbai, Feb 6 : The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange today opened with negative gap of 416 points and plunged by 524 points before closing at 18, 139.

The midcap index also registered negative trend as it lost 100 points and small cap shed 55 points. The BSE-500 plunged by 177 points.

Out of 2, 817 stocks, 1,473 declined, while 1,304 advanced and 40 were unchanged.

Satyam fell by 6.7 per cent and Wipro plunged 6.5 per cent.

Infosys dropped over six per cent and TCS plunged by over five percent. Hindalco and Maruti shed nearly five per cent, while ONGC fell by 4.4 per cent.

Bharti Airtel fell down by nearly four per cent, HDFC declined by over three per cent. ITC, BHEL and Bajaj Auto dropped 2.7 per cent each.

Reliance and Mahindra and Mahindra slipped around 2.5 per cent. Grasim, Tata Motors and NTPC also slipped around 2.5 per cent. SBI, Larsen and Toubro and Hindustan Unilever declined nearly two per cent each.

The National Stock Exchange's Nifty was down by 161 points at 5,323.
