National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Development of the North-eastern region to tap professionals from the north-eastern region.
New Delhi July 10 : National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Development of the North-eastern region to tap professionals from the north-eastern region.
According to the agreement, around 20,000 students from eight states in the region would undergo an assessment test, which would be conducted between September 2007 and January 2008.
"A scientific test will be conducted by means of which the youth of the region will be able to know their talent and the field they can excel in," said Mani Shankar Aiyar, Union Minister for Development of the North-Eastern Region.
"IT investment study is done stage by stage. The first stage in this talent hunt is to establish whether there is a talent here, it is important to know the size and credibility of the talent pool. Wherever there are talented people, industries are definitely going to go there," said Kiran Karnik, NASSCOM President.
The selected students would be assisted for attending various job fairs jointly organised by the Government and NASSCOM across the country.
NASSCOM had earlier conducted a similar test in Rajasthan where over 2500 students were evaluated.
According to projections, software and services exports are expected to rise by 26 to 29 percent to around 40 billion dollar in the year to March 2008 as demand for outsourcing remains strong.
With a huge pool of English speaking students, Northeastern states have a great potential to carve out a niche in the booming IT and services sector.
