Hyderabad... 13 August 2007: As there has been ever increasing demand for American education from the students around the world particularly from India, America.edu which is owned by Sai Pola, a city NRI, is planning to develop the America.edu website as a gateway to the American universities promoting US schools and their educational programs, creating an authoritative portal on information for foreign students, and providing other education-related services, etc.
The United States gets billions of dollars in revenue from foreign students each year. Around 50% are from India. Once the website www.America.edu is developed as an information portal , it's expected to capture an instant market share in this billion dollar industry. By virtue of the unique name the site already gets lot of free type-in visitors who are looking for information without any advertising.
At a time when there are lot of American universities coming to India (many are setting up physical campuses in Hyderabad with state government allocating land etc. example, Georgia Tech University, etc. and others). That is the power of Indian students when it comes to American education. they always have been major source of revenue for American universities.
Mr. Pola informs that owning domain name America.edu is like owning 'Business.com' of education. With the right kind of partnership, preferably from corporate players from the field of education, the owners of America.edu are expecting to develop and launch the portal immediately before the fall admissions commence in USA.
Note: edu domains are not sold or bought like dot coms. they belong to the institution that was originally assigned the domain. So, the only way to acquire an edu domain is thru the ownership in the institution. After year 2001, only accredited educational institutes are eligible to get the edu domains. America.edu was registered before year 2001, so it's called grandfathered domain and is not required to have an accredited educational institute.
