At a time when there are lot of American universities coming to India (many are setting up physical campuses in Hyderabad with state government allocating land etc. example, Georgia Tech University, etc. and others). That is the power of Indian students when it comes to American education. they always have been major source of revenue for American universities.

Note: edu domains are not sold or bought like dot coms. they belong to the institution that was originally assigned the domain. So, the only way to acquire an edu domain is thru the ownership in the institution. After year 2001, only accredited educational institutes are eligible to get the edu domains. America.edu was registered before year 2001, so it's called grandfathered domain and is not required to have an accredited educational institute.
